Playing around with an idea for a somewhat unguilded main protagonist for a somewhat slice-of-lifey but otherwise somber, action-packed MtG webcomic (with some cues/inspiration from various sports movies and sports manga) I want to do centering around the Ravnican Skygames and an interguild team of Skygames athletes who struggle to keep the team and their own lives together as tensions rise between the guilds and the Gateless revolutionaries.
I knew for sure that I wanted to play with a relatively strong female lead/team captain with no official guild affiliations but with some amount of connections and guild-related aspirations since she needed to be somewhat tied to the increasing guild conflicts for story purposes. No name yet, but so far she’s a half-elf, half-human of Gruul and Selesnyan lineage whose dream is to work with griffins and become a Skyjek for the Boros Legion. Previously rejected by the highly selective program at the Horizon Military Academy, she intends to make a name for herself in the Skygames to get the Legion’s attention.
Agile, light, precise, and a capable rooftop fighter, she’s certain she physically has what it takes to become a Skyknight. Whether she can demonstrate the same of her leadership ability - with her own aloof, independent, and reckless nature to tame; as well as dealing with the city’s political tensions being mirrored in the young team - only time can tell.
Teas From the Multiverse: Ascension Blend
A couple days late, finals and all - but after some deliberation, the second tea expansion! Sorin’s blend features a complex but indulgent mix of dark and bright flavors led by the timeless and classic Earl Grey.
As usual, be sure to check this and the other blends out, and let me know what you think and how I can improve!
Baka! It’s not like I want to dance with you or anything!
Any excuse to draw FAAAABULOUS outfits is a good one. Especially if it’s for SCIENCE.
Based Ral’s outfit on MtGFashion’s Formal Ral post. Zeico’s outfit is an original based on the character’s design.
If Ral/Zeico isn’t one of your tumblr MtG fandom/RP OTPs, then you’re doing it wrong.
Was going through my drawings/WIPS folder to look at old art/nostalgiabomb myself and ran across the original Jace and Chandra label art drafts for the Magic: Teas From the Multiverse Adagio tea blends. Being my two favorite ‘Walkers among the Lorwyn Five and 2012 Five, they were the first to get teas/labels/tested and as a result took some time to perfect.
So, just thought a comparison post to kind of show to evolution to the simplified style I ended up choosing would be cool. Those of you who’ve known my stuff a while know that when it comes to any committed/long term project, I rarely do anything simplified or stylized in this sort of way - that’s usually reserved for quickies, drawn replies, and cute stuff.
The original idea was to somewhat incorporate the painterly look of official MtG art while mostly sticking with the way I usually paint faces when I take it semi-seriously - kind of fancy and semirealistic. I realized a bit into drawing Liliana later that, although I still like the originals, 1) the initial style choice was inefficent, 2) it wouldn’t look as nice on Adagio’s semitransparent printed labels, and 3) it felt too moody for what were supposed to be fun, cute little novelty teas.
I still ended up doing lineless/painted portraits in the end of course because I’m a lazy fuck who doesn’t like going through the extra step of lining THEN coloring AW YEEE LET’S JUST MAKE COLORFUL BLOBS ON TOP OF BLOBS AND CLEAN IT UP, but with my roommate’s advice the simplification of process made making the final labels faster and more pleasurable to draw.
The moral of the story: Sometimes, simpler is just better, and fun can be more fabulous and cool than fanciness/trying to look cool.
Teas From the Multiverse: Cloudburst Blend
Since I won’t have time to do this over the next couple of days to release the first “expansion” blend because of nigh-finals projects and Prerelease weekend, I’m posting it up early - just in time for Dragon’s Maze! Ral’s blend boasts a spicy-citrusy flavor with a bit of a caffeine kick from the mate - electrifying!
Other than that and finals madness, you guys can also expect to see a new blend added to the collection every one or two weeks. Be sure to check it out, and if you buy it, let me know how I can improve this and/or the other blends~
Ladies and Gentlemen, the (unofficial) Magic: Teas From the Multiverse Adagio tea blend collection is now live, opening the gates with the Lorwyn Five! Get ‘em now while they’re hot (or iced, whichever you prefer)!
From this point on, the collection will be continually expanded and feature more Planeswalkers and more individual artwork/logos as it goes along, as well as each blend and artwork updated and improved as I hopefully get feedback from you guys~
Linkage!
